Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the last line of defence between your workers and workplace hazards. Choosing correctly matters.
1. Start with a risk assessment
Identify the hazards present: falling objects, chemical splashes, noise, dust, electrical risks. Your PPE should match the hazard.
2. Check the standards
Look for equipment that meets recognised standards. In Tanzania, OSHA and TBS provide guidance on acceptable equipment.
3. Fit and comfort matter
PPE that is uncomfortable will not be worn. Involve workers in selection and offer size options.
4. Train and maintain
Provide training on correct use, inspection and storage. Replace damaged equipment immediately.
